Frequently-Asked Questions
How does this work?
-Customers bring in equipment for sale. A triplicate ticket form is filled out for each item. One slip is attached to the item, one slip is kept by the swap accounting staff, and one slip is given to the customer.
-Customers can start shopping on Saturday after noon (until 8pm)
-On Sunday those that dropped off equipment return with their green slip to pick up their unsold equipment or a check.
If you have multiple items to sell, please make sure you bring them all in at once before you start filling out tickets AND make sure the tickets you are given are in sequential order.
How much of my selling price does the swap retain?
- The swap retains 20% of the sale price
What if I forget my green ticket on Sunday?
- The accounting team should be able to find your item(s), but you may be asked to wait until other customers are served.
What is the 20% used for?
- The patrol requires equipment to perform its duties - medical equipment, snowmobiles, emergency transport toboggans, to name a few. These are some of the items covered by the funds raised by this swap.
What patrol(s) run and benefit from this swap?
-Coffee Mill Ski Area patrol (near Wabasha, MN), Hiawatha Nordic Alpine Patrol (SE MN) and SteepleChase Patrol (currently inactive).
Can someone else drop off/pick up my equipment?
-Yes, but please make sure that whomever returns to pick up the check/equipment on Sunday has the appropriate green ticket(s).
Is there any new equipment or is it all used?
-We have a mix of new and used. There are a couple of ski shops (Tyrol Ski Shop in Rochester, MN and Wayne's Ski and Cycle from Mason City, IA) that bring new equipment for sale at a reduced price, as well.
What kind of equipment is accepted?
-Downhill and cross-country skis, boots and poles, snow boards, ski/board/boot bags, hats, coats, and other outerwear. We also accept ski racks, snow board bindings, but they are less common.
Please make sure any loose items are attached - for snowboard bindings, this might mean combining items into a heavy-duty Ziploc bag or tying them together so they are not separated. Please refrain from bringing items in boxes (unless you attach them to the box).
Is there someone there to help me price equipment for sale and help me size equipment that I want to buy?
-Yes. Our check-in staff will help you price items appropriately so they have a good chance to sell. There are also patrollers on the sales floor, as well as ski shop personnel, to answer questions on sizing skis/boots and other equipment.
